ABOUT ME

  • lizzythecynic

Born and raised in the redwood curtain, a trippy haven blanketed by cannabis & trees, this is the place I return to visit my parents, brother, aunts, uncles, & cousins. Growing up, I remember the room filling with my grandma and mom's voices in joyful unison as they sang old Mexican tunes while cooking batches of tamales.  I aspire to be a witty story-teller like my abuelita and a forgiving, hard-working soul like my mother.

Based in San Francisco, where I work at a middle school during the day, by night I'm inspired by the music, flavors and cultura de La Misión. As a first-generation Latina, raised in the rural North of California, and educated as a sociology and religious studies major, my lens on life is intersectional and inclusive which I try to reflect through my photography.

I've always been drawn to photography,  but it wasn't until I began experimenting with disposable cameras that I developed a love for film that eventually led to the purchase of the simple and classic Pentax K1000. I fell in love with the light leaks, accidental double exposures, and the gritty rawness of 35mm photography. Here's a brief glimpse of my life through words and photos that detail the thoughts, people, and places that've influenced me over the last few years or so.
